Dr. Alyssa “Allie” Powell is an enthusiastic, caring teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages and abilities. Allie tailors lessons to each individual to improve technique, inspire students to use their artistic voice, and develop confidence. In lessons, practice techniques and performance poise are also addressed, as well as letting loose and having a good time!
Dr. Powell has taught elementary and middle school band, choir, and general music. She was an adjunct instructor for woodwinds for three years at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado and has taught as a graduate assistant at OSU and the University of New Mexico. Her students have earned spots in honor ensembles such as All State and the Columbus Youth Symphony, and frequently get top ratings for solo and ensemble performances.
Dr. Powell has extensive experience performing solo repertoire, chamber music, and has performed as a member of concert bands, orchestras, marching bands, jazz bands, choirs, and musical theatre productions. She has performed with the Westerville Symphony Orchestra, New Albany Symphony, and Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, as well as with orchestras in Colorado, New Mexico, and Montana. In November 2019 she was a featured soloist with the OSU Symphony Orchestra performing William Bolcom’s exciting Concerto for Clarinet.
Dr. Powell holds a DMA degree in clarinet performance from OSU where she was a graduate teaching associate under the guidance of Dr. Caroline Hartig. She also holds a MM in clarinet performance from the University of New Mexico, and BM and BA degrees in music from the University of Montana where she studied clarinet and voice.
