Max Button

Instruments Taught: Drums

Maxwell Button was born in Tenafly, a suburb of New York City in the northeastern corner of New Jersey. He began piano lessons at the age of six but switched to drum lessons before long. When he was 13, Maxwell’s family moved to Akron, Ohio. Fortunately he had plenty of practice space in his parents’ garage. It was here that Maxwell spent much of his free time in junior high and high school. He played in the high school marching band and jazz band as well as several garage bands. During this time Maxwell also studied privately with two Akron based drum teachers.

After high school he attended Otterbein College on an audition-based scholarship. After two years Maxwell auditioned for the pop/rock band The Big Creak and was asked to join in August of 2000. He left Otterbein to play and tour with the Big Creak. After the Big Creak disbanded in 2004, Maxwell decided to go back to school and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Jazz Performance degree in 2007. Currently, he is involved in many different projects, including The Jazz Crackers, Brett Burleson Trio, The Moonbats, Men of Leisure and plays mainly freelance gigs as well as leading his own group. Maxwell teaches all styles on the drum set and is an active musician in the Columbus scene.
