Introducing Recorder King to the Music Royale Guitar Wall

What’s New?

Music Royale has a new line of guitars available. We are very excited to announce our partnership with Recording King! Let Sara tell you all about it!

About Recording King

The history of this company goes all the way back to the 1930’s as a house brand for Montgomery Ward. Keeping up with the historical importance, Recording King upholds their legacy using vintage designs and hand-assembled parts. If you’re looking for a guitar, banjo, or mandolin with a classic feel and sound with a retro look, stop by and try one! From beginner to pro, there’s a perfectly priced instrument for all budgets.

We’re all musicians behind the counter at Music Royale, so we have our favorites.

Guitars

Sara recommends the Series 11 all solid dreadnought with a solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides and comes stocked with a Fishman Presys VT Pick Up System.

Banjos

Dirty 30s Resonator Banjos are ideal for singer-songwriters and other folk style players. This banjo is on our wall because of how light it weighs and its classic tone. This banjo creates a retro vibe with its satin finish, maple neck and Remo Recording King banjo head.

Mandolins

We have the Dirty 30s Mandolin on our wall because it is more than an entry-level instrument. The focus is on the traditional A-style body connected to a comfortable C-shaped neck with an authentic mini-Recording King Jubilee headstock and ivory tuners and classy MOP fretboard dots for a rustic and refined look.

Guess what else? If we don’t already have it at the store for you, everything is also available through Sweetwater!

Stop by your friendly neighborhood music store and test drive a Recording King guitar from our wall.

Music Royale Student Spotlight: Neil Taylor

Neil Taylor

Neil Taylor has been a lesson student at Music Royale since he was 6-years-old, taking lessons for a variety of instruments: Alto Saxophone, Guitar, Drums, Piano. Neil was diagnosed with mixed phenotype acute leukemia, a rare cancer that is a blend of AML and ALL leukemia, when he was 12-years-old. This interrupted his music lessons, but not his love for music. Watch his interview!

Neil’s Lore

While Neil was in the hospital, he found that hospital food was fine and all, but it wasn’t something he wanted to eat every day during his stay. In his experience, by the time a family member could get to the car, leave the hospital, wait in line at the drive through, re-park, and deliver the food to his room, his appetite wasn’t the same anymore. He figured, if he was going through this, then other children probably were as well.

Neil’s Mission

After going into remission, Neil’s Meals was founded through the Feel Better Foundation. Donations are turned into gift cards to various restaurant brands and made available to pediatric patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Families can request a warrior volunteer to pick up food or place an order on a food delivery service app. If you’d like to help Neil with his mission, click here!

Neil’s Advice

Each musician has their own challenges they face. Neil reminisces about being a “video game kid” and not wanting to practice, but ultimately glad he made himself do it.

“I learned that practice was absolutely necessary, especially in higher level music… You can’t just get it in one go and you can’t just wing it because it will show”

Not being able to play music during treatment, Neil faced a different challenge when he came back to Music Royale. Learning his lesson about avoiding practice, Neil likes to think he’s pretty good at all his instruments again.

“…and practice can be a lot of fun, especially if you like what you’ve picked up. And if you don’t like what you’ve picked up, you don’t have to feel like you have to stick to it. You can always change it around. And always try something new.” Watch the video to hear all of Neil’s advice.

Neil’s Influences

Neil’s musical influences are Imagine Dragons, Frank Sinatra, his Aunt Niki and his grandfather. Imagine Dragon is a band he listens to all of the time and Frank SInatra has inspired his love if jazz music. Aunt Niki is a professional musician herself and sing with various bands. She fostered her nephews natural talent by paying for his music lessons and musical instruments and his grandfather made sure he was present by driving him to all of his lessons. Neil would also like to thank teachers, Ron and Erin

Now What Neil?

Now Neil is in high school and has been part of many musical and non musical theater productions. Including: Didn’t See That Coming, Little Mermaid, Into the Woods, Bye Bye Birdie, Girls of Road Manor. He is currently taking singing lessons to help his theater career.

Music Royale

Music Royale is your friendly neighborhood music store and we are proud to present such a fine student as Neil Taylor. It has been a pleasure to watch him start his musical journey at a young age and it was even more a pleasure to see him return and continue music with a new found love of practicing!

We believe that every student is unique and their lessons should be, too. Our highly trained instructors customize lesson plans for each student, ensuring that every student’s goals and ability are considered. Theory, technique, composition, and music production are all taught at Music Royale. Rock School – Fall 2024

Music Royale’s Rock School has been a cornerstone of Music Royale’s musical education and performance experience since 2003, offering students a unique and immersive experience in the world of rock music. This program goes beyond traditional music lessons, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to be a professional musician.

Throughout the year, Rock School students participate in quarterly sessions that culminate in thrilling live performances. These performances are not only a chance for students to showcase their musical talents but also an opportunity to learn important skills like teamwork, confidence-building, and stage presence.

One of the highlights of Rock School is the series of live performances that take place at iconic venues like Natalie’s, The Lazy Chameleon in Powell, OH, and the Dublin Coffman Amphitheater. These performances are not just local events; they are live-streamed on Music Royale’s YouTube channel, allowing friends and family from around the world to tune in and support the students.

The performances on March 3rd, 2024, October 29th, 2023, and July 15th, 2023, were particularly special. The July 15th performance was part of Music Royale’s Big Birthday Bash celebrating its 21st birthday, featuring six groups of students playing rock songs of their choice at the Dublin Coffman Amphitheater. The October 29th and March 3rd performances featured seven bands each at The Lazy Chameleon in Powell, OH.

Rock School has a proven track record of success, with many of its alumni going on to launch successful music careers. However, Rock School isn’t just for aspiring professionals; it’s for anyone who wants to have fun, build confidence, and improve their musical abilities.

If you’re interested in joining Rock School, applications for the 2024 Fall session are now open. You don’t need to be a Music Royale student to participate, but private lessons are necessary. Visit Music Royale’s website for more information and to sign up for this exciting musical journey!

Happy Birthday, Music Royale

This is the 3rd year celebrating the opening of your friendly neighborhood music store. Founded in 2002 to provide our community with an old-school style, independent, locally owned music store, Music Royale excels in hard-to-find professional music education.

In 2023, Music Royale and friends took over the Dublin Coffman Amphitheatre. We had many guests join us, including RESCUEDohio, Events by Maddy, and Big Mouth Egg Rolls. Of course there was music! Special guests on the stage included Music Royale Rock school students bands and teachers, Deanna Sweeney, Eryn Reynolds, Jeff Ward, Megan Wetzel, Paul Baker, Ryan Craycroft, Race Lerma, Dylan Cole, Sara McCluskey, Scott Gorsuch, Thane Leshner, Abbey Bechtol, Larz Raymond, Caleb Hutslar, and Rob Cave. As well as long-time student, Lex and his band, Graveyard Pete and the New Appalachian Sound, & The Moonbats with graduated Rock School student, Alex Haas, as a guest singer!

In 2022, we held the first birthday bash at our store, 480 W. Olentangy St. and Good News Church next door. The rain didn’t stop our fun at all! In fact, it made the Dunk Tank more fun! Read all about it in our blog feature, 20th Anniversary Birthday Bash.

We hope to see you at our 3rd annual Anniversary Birthday Bash for our 22nd birthday! Bring some friends, share the Facebook event, and tag us in any photos you post! #friendlyneighborhoodmusicstore
